ECG announces power outage schedule for Santase-Ahodwo Road project – Check if your area is listed

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has notified residents and businesses across several communities in the Ashanti Region that a major pylon relocation exercise will trigger three separate power outages stretching from late May into mid-June 2026.

The disruption, which is necessary to allow for the construction of the dual carriage road from Santase to the Ahodwo roundabout, will affect the Edwenase substation on three specific dates. According to a statement released by the utility provider, the relocation work will be carried out by Adusi Electrical Company.

In a notice dated Tuesday, May 26, 2026, ECG confirmed that the first outage will take place on that same day from 9:00am until 6:00pm. Two further shutdowns have been scheduled for Wednesday, June 3, 2026, and Wednesday, June 10, 2026, both also running from 9:00am to 6:00pm. The repeated interruptions, the company explained, are unavoidable to safely reposition the pylons that currently stand in the path of the new road alignment.

The affected areas form a wide arc around the Edwenase substation. Communities that will experience the temporary blackouts include Patase, Edwenase, parts of Kwadaso, Nwamase, Apire, Ampatia, Bebu, Dako, Adumasa, Ampabame Number One and Number Two, Mpatasie, Trede, Sabin Akrofrom, Takyiman, Denkyembouso, Ohwumasi and Hill Top. Other areas listed are parts of Asouyeboa, parts of Tanoso, Agric Nzema, Yabi, Merewadwa, Kokode, Aburaso, Kromoase, Akyeremade, Chichibon, Gyekye, Dida, Odeneho Kwadaso, OWASS, Agric Amanfrom, Santasi, Fankyenebra, Apemanim, St Hubert, Christian Service College, Apatrapa, Afasiebon and surrounding localities.

The announcement will be of particular concern to residents of Kwadaso, which appears multiple times in the notice, as well as students and staff of the Opoku Ware School, known widely as OWASS. Several commercial and farming communities including Agric Nzema and Trede will also need to plan around the extended daylight outages.

ECG expressed regret for the inconvenience that will arise from the exercise but emphasised that the work is essential to facilitate the ongoing road infrastructure project, which is expected to ease traffic congestion along one of Kumasi’s busiest corridors. The company advised affected customers to make alternative arrangements for power-dependent activities during the specified hours on each of the three dates.

Unlike the widespread maintenance notices previously issued for the Eastern, Accra, Tema and other Ashanti communities on the same Tuesday, this particular disruption is tied directly to civil engineering works rather than routine grid improvements. Customers in the listed areas have been urged to bear with the company as contractors work to complete the pylon relocation safely and on schedule.
