Popular Nigerian music producer and record executive, Olumide Ogunade, better known as ID Cabasa, has reacted to the growing cases of killings, kidnappings and violent attacks across the country.
Naija News reports that the veteran producer shared his concerns in an emotional video on his Instagram page where he spoke about how many Nigerians now seem used to disturbing incidents because such reports have become common in different parts of the country.
According to him, the constant violence has made many people less shocked by terrible events that would normally cause nationwide outrage. He said the country is gradually accepting painful situations as normal while innocent citizens continue to suffer.
ID Cabasa also blamed political, ethnic and religious divisions for preventing Nigerians from speaking with one voice whenever tragic incidents happen. He said many people now focus more on defending political interests or tribal positions instead of demanding justice and better security for citizens.
The music executive referred to the recent killing of a teacher and said it was painful that such a tragic incident quickly became another topic people moved on from without enough action being taken.
He also criticized the response of the authorities to the rising insecurity, saying many Nigerians feel abandoned as violent attacks continue in different areas of the country.
“It’s so sad now that we have gotten used to evil. Nigerians have gotten used to the killing. We have adjusted to the darkness that has covered this country. The government of the day is not taking action and it’s so sad that even when we are supposed to speak up people pick political divides; we make it religious, we make it ethnical and we make it tribal. An innocent teacher was beheaded and the next thing we keep adjusting,” he stated.
