The legal team for New Patriotic Party (NPP) activist Kweku Osei Korankyi Asiedu, known as KOKA, says their client did not threaten any police officer, arguing that a viral video showing an altercation referred instead to an internal party security member and not the national police service.
Lawyer Enoch Afoakwa said on Accra-based Asempa FM on Monday (25 May), that the individual involved in the incident, known as “Boryor” or “Police” within the party’s internal security structure, was not a member of the Ghana Police Service.
Jovial interaction
He said the comments made in the video were part of a “jovial interaction” between party members and should not be interpreted as threats against state security personnel.
“The person involved is part of the party’s internal security detail. The reference to ‘police’ was a nickname, not the national police service,” Afoakwa said.
He added that KOKA did not threaten any law enforcement officer and that the remarks were taken out of context due to the use of the term “police” in the exchange.
No threat
According to him, the activist’s comment suggesting a future political response was made in the context of a personal disagreement and not an intention to harm or intimidate any officer.
“The engagement was between colleagues in the party’s structure. There was no threat directed at the Ghana Police Service,” he said.
KOKA, a known activist of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), was invited by the police on Monday following the circulation of the viral video, according to officials familiar with the matter.
Afoakwa said his client cooperated fully with investigators and maintained he had no issue with the police service.
“He respects the Ghana Police Service and would never make threats against them,” the lawyer said.
