Accra, May 28, GNA – President John Dramani Mahama has commended the Ghana National Hajj Board and all stakeholders for their dedication and hard work in ensuring a smooth and successful 2026 Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

“This year’s Hajj operations has been largely successful. About 6,900 Ghanaian pilgrims were lifted to the kingdom of Saudi Arabia to undertake the sacred pilgrimage.”

President Mahama made the remarks during the 2026 Eid al-Adha National Prayer Session held at the Black Star Square in Accra.

He noted that he had received encouraging reports regarding accommodation, feeding arrangements, transportation, and the overall welfare of the pilgrims.

The President also referenced the significance of the Day of Arafat, describing it as one of the holiest days in Islam, when pilgrims gather to pray, repent, and seek the mercy of Allah.

“We pray that Almighty Allah will accept the prayers and supplications of our pilgrims and grant them a safe return journey,” he added.

President Mahama, however, expressed sadness over the passing of a Ghanaian pilgrim during this year’s exercise.

“On behalf of the Government and people of Ghana, I offer my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and we pray that Allah will forgive all his sins and grant him Jannatul Firdaus.”

He urged Ghanaians to use the occasion of Eid al-Adha to reaffirm their commitment to the values of sacrifice, peace, compassion, humility, generosity, and national unity.

The President further called on citizens to support one another, preserve the nation’s peace, and work collectively towards building a stronger and more prosperous Ghana.

“May Allah continue to bless our homeland Ghana, guide our leaders, strengthen our unity, and grant prosperity to every family,” he said.

The Ghana National Hajj Board, also known as the Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana, is the official body responsible for organising and facilitating the annual pilgrimage to Mecca for Ghanaian Muslims.
