Australia defeat Kenya’s Starlets to Win FIFA Series


The Matildas proved superior on the day, with Samantha Kerr and Clare Wheeler scoring in each half to seal the title for Australia.

Kenya’s national women’s football team, the Harambee Starlets, finished second in the inaugural FIFA Women’s Series after falling 2-0 to Australia in Wednesday’s final at Nyayo Stadium.

The Matildas proved superior on the day, with Samantha Kerr and Clare Wheeler scoring in each half to seal the title for Australia.

Earlier at the same venue, India secured victory over Malawi with a 3-2 win to wrap up their campaign.

On their path to the final, Kenya edged India 2-0, while Australia cruised past Malawi with a dominant 5-0 win.

 

 

The FIFA Women’s Series is a FIFA initiative putting together international friendlies during official FIFA windows, bringing together teams from different continents that would not typically face each other.
