Does he think he’s still in the entertainment industry? – UCC lecturer fires A Plus

Dr Otchere slams A Plus over ‘irresponsible’ claims on ORAL Dr Otchere slams A Plus over ‘irresponsible’ claims on ORAL

A senior lecturer at the University of Cape Coast, Dr Jonathan Asante Otchere, has criticised the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, over comments he describes as “irresponsible.”

Kwame A Plus, in an interview on Joy Prime, stated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s flagship anti-corruption initiative, ORAL, aimed at tracing and recovering misappropriated public funds and assets, has collapsed.

According to A Plus, some current government officials have acquired state lands and developed them within a short period, which he says defeats the purpose of the anti-corruption initiative.

The Gomoa Central MP further warned that he could make public land documents of current government officials who have allegedly acquired state lands if pushed.

“I know people in this government that they came recently and have bought government land and have finished buildings. I know all of them. Nobody should talk about ORAL again. ORAL is collapsed. We have collapsed it. One day, when I get angry, I will release everybody’s land document,” A Plus said.

Reacting to these claims during a discussion on Metro TV on April 13, 2026, Dr Otchere questioned whether A Plus still sees himself as a lawmaker or remains in the entertainment space, especially given the nature of his remarks.

He argued that the Gomoa Central MP’s comments were inappropriate, particularly when there are established channels to address such concerns.

“I wonder if Kwame Asare Obeng still sees himself as a member of parliament or is still in the entertainment business. I think it is grossly irresponsible on his part to make such wild allegations without especially going to the appropriate authority,” he said.

Dr Jonathan Asante Otchere further stated that if A Plus is confident in his sources regarding claims that some current government officials have acquired state lands and developed them, he should formally present the evidence instead of waiting to act out of anger.

“As it were, if you know that your source is good, you should go to the appropriate authority. You can either be a whistleblower or you can even file a question in parliament to elicit the right answers and responses, especially with respect to land. The Land and Forestry Minister should be able to provide answers and responses to that.

“If you really want to reveal those who have acquired, he can also equally go ahead and do so, so that nobody should rather get him angry before he brings them out. I think that is irresponsible on his part,” the UCC lecturer added.
