A security officer at the University of Ghana has been arrested after a widely circulated video captured him physically assaulting a man on campus.
The suspect, identified as Ebenezer Annor Darko, a member of the university’s Safety and Security Services Directorate, is currently in police custody and assisting with investigations.
According to police, he was apprehended by the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team of the Inspector General of Police after the footage surfaced online, allegedly showing him beating, stomping and slapping a man.
Authorities indicated that the victim had been detained on suspicion of theft at the time of the incident.
In a statement, the University of Ghana confirmed it had taken notice of the video and had launched an internal probe to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, in line with its staff code of conduct.
Police, who confirmed the arrest on Tuesday, said investigations are ongoing and assured the public that updates will be provided as the case progresses.
They also cautioned against mob justice, urging the public to allow law enforcement agencies to handle suspected criminal activity rather than resorting to violence.
