Reigning Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) Artiste of the Year, King Promise, has stated that his music is driven by passion rather than the pursuit of awards.
The award-winning singer made the remarks during an interview on 3FM on April 15, 2026, where he addressed questions about his absence from this year’s Telecel Ghana Music Awards nominations.
According to King Promise, his low visibility in award schemes this year was intentional, as he had not released new material eligible for consideration.
“I hadn’t released anything recently, so I wasn’t going for any nominations or whatsoever. When the new project comes, everyone is going to see it,” he said.
The singer explained that he has been focusing on developing a major project behind the scenes, which he believes will have a strong impact upon release.
“I’ve been working on a project that we have out now; at one point in time, it was my main focus. But I’ve been working on something crazy that’s coming out soon,” he added.
King Promise emphasised that his creative process is not guided by the desire to win awards, but by authenticity and passion.
“For me, music can’t be overly calculated. It has to come from somewhere that’s really special. I’m not making music for awards,” he stated.
He further noted that while he appreciates recognition, it does not dictate his output.
“It’s not because I’ve won an award, so I have to go make music by all means. I appreciate the awards, I cherish it, but whatever comes for you to see me worthy of these awards has to be special,” he said.
Despite his current absence from award nominations, King Promise expressed confidence in his ability to reclaim the Artiste of the Year title in the future.
“I don’t think there will be a case where I won’t win Artist of the Year ever again. I do believe that with what I have coming, I could be the Artist of the Year again and again,” he added.
