Senegalese singer Akon has sparked reactions after sharing his thoughts on commitment and monogamy.
Naija News reports that in an interview with The Shade Room, the Smack That crooner said men are not naturally designed to stay with only one partner.
He said that he believes this goes with human nature and how people are created. He explained that, in his view, many men struggle to stay tied to one person because of a natural attraction to multiple partners.
The businessman also made a distinction between what he called commitment and faithfulness. According to him, a man can stay loyal to one partner emotionally and still feel attracted to others, but choose not to act on those feelings.
The father of nine described faithfulness as staying dedicated to one partner even when there are temptations, insisting that emotional loyalty is what matters most in a relationship.
He said: “We’re not committed. We’re not built to be committed. We’re natural beings by nature, right? Okay. We populate because that’s how God created us to be. So we can’t be committed to one, or two, or three, or whatever. It’s not our thing.
We’re not wired to be committed. But if faithfulness is something totally different. I can be with a chick and be with her forever through all the problems. No matter what, I can find the baddest chick alive and have my main chick. Could be in a hotel, and she busts down the door, and I’m knee-deep in there, I’m gonna jump up like, I didn’t even know her!
“She.. I wouldn’t even know her. She means nothing to me because this is what I’m faithful to. That’s faithfulness, that’s creating that energy to fight for it. Now, commitment, we… we’re guilty. We’re not committed. We’re gonna be with multiple women. That’s just who we are. We can’t… that’s nature”
