SENSEI Seema Esterhuizen, president of the KZN Kickboxing Association, reached continental heights after winning the African Woman in Sports Initiative award for her transformative impact in local sport and society.

The win saw her selected from 75 nominees across 17 countries. Further cementing her growing legacy in sport, she has also been shortlisted among the top 30 honourees for the Influential Men and Women Awards in KZN.
This follows after she captured national attention at the Momentum Gsports Awards, where she stood out among 750 other nominees as a finalist in the volunteer of the year category.
“This recognition reflects years of commitment to mentoring athletes, promoting grassroots and creating opportunities for young women in sport across KZN. This is not just personal but symbolises progress for women in sport and the power of volunteerism,” said Esterhuizen.
She is a devoted mother of two, a loving wife and does her best to inspire, mentor and be a mom to many athletes who rely on her for support, encouragement and inspiration. She is actively involved in numerous community upliftment initiatives throughout the year and hopes her efforts make a tangible difference.
“A key focus of my outreach is to support women and youth affected by gender-based violence and harm. Through youth fitness workshops and self-defence programmes, I want to empower young girls and women,” she explained.
