Learning at Pwani University was suspended today evening following a tragic road accident that claimed lives of several students and the driver. The vice chancellor Mohammed Rajab said through a memo to the students that learning will resume on Monday.
The ill fated bus allegedly developed a brake failure. The driver tried everything in his power to avoid loss of lives but it was too late. In videos shared online, the driver switched on the lights of the speeding bus as if to alert other motorists that he had lost control.
The accident happened along the Nakuru – Nairobi Highway in Kayole, Naivasha after the bus rammed into a 14 seater matatu.
The Students who were around 40 in total were heading to Eldoret for KUSA NATIONAL PLAYOFFS “B” 2023 games that were scheduled to be played from tomorrow March 31st to 2nd April, 2023 at the University of Eldoret.
Pwani University students and friends have continued to mourn the late students and also the driver through emotional messages on social media. Most of them say he was a hero.
A person by the name Mulinge Mutual who was close to the driver mourned him stating that Pwani University had lost a professional driver.
“Rip Silvester wanje kadange. I will miss ur broken kikamba. Also I will miss ur jokes. We used to stay like brothers regardless of our professional. I will also miss ur smile. Rip again. It pains. Pwani university has lost a professional driver. Juzi tuu aki. Kifo aki. Ur little angels will will be safe” Wrote Mulinge while sharing his photo.
A student reffered to the driver as their pilot and uncle.
Our pilot. Go easy, uncle,” a student said after posting his picture.
