The race to dominate Mount Kenya is on, one coalition seems to be gaining ground while the other is still assured if support in the region. While Kenya Kwanza seems to be the most popular political coalition in Mount Kenya Region, Azimio is slowly gaining ground and could give Kenya them a run for their money. Below are five counties in Mount Kenya that could vote Azimio la Umoja Governors ahead of Kenya Kwanza Aspirants.

1.Meru County

The race to take the Meru county top office had been uncertain for Azimio la Umoja outfit until CS Peter Munya, quit the race in support of the incumbent governor Kiraitu Murungi. Peter Munya who said he’ll be looking to retain his position in the Cabinet, seemed to have lightened up the work for Kiraitu Murungi who will only have the incumbent senator Mithika Linturi to beat. Kiraitu will be looking to defend his gubernatorial seat in Jubilee Party ticket, and is one of the few Azimio allied governors in Mount Kenya who could win their race in August.

2.Kiambu County

The incumbent Kiambu Governor James Nyoro could take advantage of Kenya Kwanza’s many aspirants to retain his seat as the governor of Kiambu County. If Moses Kuria, William Kabogo, Ferdinand Waititu and Kimani Wamatangi do not settle on one candidate, then Azimio la Umoja could have the second Mount Kenya Governor from Kiambu County. James Nyoro would be seeking to win his first competitive race to the seat with Jubilee Party ticket, which under the Azimio la Umoja coalition

3.Laikipia

There is high probability that the current Laikipia governor Ndiritu Muriithi who is the head of Raila’s campaign board could retain his gubernatorial seat come August 2022. Ndiritu Mureithi’s influence in Laikipia county can’t be written off despite the county being a widely pro-Ruto zone.
