Signed from Nairobi City Stars as a right back, Makati played in defense but would occasionally slot in midfield in training until in the middle of the second half of the season when he became a mainstay in midfield.

Makati has excelled in midfield where he brings in the strength, energy and passing that is required while also having an eye for goal, much to the admiration of the veteran tactician.

“The boy (Makati) has improved so much and has really helped the team and that is something I really appreciate,” said Matano.

Makati’s chance in the middle of the park came as a result of an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury suffered by Dennis Maruti in a match against AFC Leopards on 26 February which ruled him out of the season and a need for someone to stand in the gap.

“We introduced Makati to midfield after Maruti got injured because there was a huge gap there and as a technical player and heart to play, he can play anywhere and that is what he has been able to do,” stated Matano.

However, Makati might have found it easier in midfield as it was not entirely a new position for him. It is a role he played in at City Stars before switching to defense.
