Zakes Bantwini launches foundation to empower youth and women in South Africa

Zakes Bantwini has officially launched the Zakes Bantwini Foundation, a new initiative aimed at creating opportunities for young people and women in South Africa.

“Last night, I had the honour of officially launching the Zakes Bantwini Foundation at The Saxon Hotel, a moment that’s been years in the making,” Bantwini shared on social media on Monday.

The award-winning musician described the foundation as deeply personal and said it reflects his commitment to mentorship, access and creating opportunities for the next generation.

“This foundation is deeply personal to me. It represents a long-standing commitment to creating access, mentorship and real opportunities for the next generation, especially youth and women in South Africa,” he wrote.

The launch brought together figures from government, business, entertainment, sport and the arts. Among those in attendance were Panyaza Lesufi, Gayton McKenzie, Tbo Touch, music duo Liquideep and Bantwini’s wife Nandi Madida.

Bantwini thanked supporters for attending the launch and backing his vision.

“Seeing leaders and creatives from government, business, entertainment, sports and the arts come together meant more than I can put into words. Your presence was not just appreciated; it strengthened the purpose behind this work,” he said.

He also expressed gratitude to his team, board members and supporters who helped bring the event together.

“To my Board Members, I appreciate your belief, guidance and commitment to this journey,” he wrote.

Bantwini ended his message by promising that the foundation’s work is only beginning.

“This is only the beginning. The work continues,” he said.

Madida also celebrated the milestone on social media.

“Congrats @zakesbantwini on the launch of your incredible foundation, @Zakesbantwinifoundation. So inspired by you and your continued commitment to creating impact that goes beyond music.”

“I remember during our dating days and those weekly trips to GIBS, watching you study social entrepreneurship and speak so passionately about one day launching your own foundation and changing people’s lives.

“To witness that vision become reality is truly special. May this be the continuation of meaningful change, transformed lives and a legacy that continues to inspire generations to come,” she wrote.
