Keta (V/R), May 16, GNA – The Keta Municipal Assembly, in the Volta Region, has set schedule of activities to mark this year’s International Day of the Boy Child, observed globally on May 16, with programmes set to run across six circuits from May 19 to June 1.

The activities would cover dozens of basic schools in communities including Kedzi, Afiadenyigba, Keta Urban, Dzelukope, Anyako, and Atiavi, with all events expected to be held at the Circuit Centre for each area from 0900 hours to 1200 hours to ensure wide participation among male pupils.

Madam Aurelia Tudzi, Girls’ Education Officer at Keta Municipal Education Directorate, told the Ghana News Agency, that Kedzi- Afiadenyigba Circuit would host the programmes on Wednesday, May 20, for schools such as Horvi Zion, Havedzi, and Kedzi schools would hold another session from 0900 hours to 1100 hours, while Tengeykorpe, Afiadenyigba E.P., and Afiadenyigba R.C. schools would meet from 1130 hours to 1300 hours.

“The Abor-Atsiame Circuit is scheduled for May 21, and schools in Abor will participate from 0900 to 1100 hours with schools in Tsiame will take part from 1130 hours to 1300 hours, at the inland communities,” she said.

Madam Tudzi, said that the Dzelukope-Vui Circuit would hold the earliest event on Tuesday, May 19, for Dzelukope R.C., Dzelukope E.P., Bishop Herman, Ketasco Basic 1 and 2, and Vui Zion Basic Schools from 0900 to 1100 hours in what is expected to be a lively opening event.

She said the Anyako Circuit would celebrate on May 22, with schools in Anyako holding a single session between 0900 to 1130 hours with the event expected to engage both male and female pupils on issues directly relevant to their development and wellbeing.

“The Atiavi-Hatorgodo Circuit will round off the activities on May 31, for schools in Atiavi which will be followed by Hatorgodo and Wenyagor schools to ensure peripheral communities are included.”

The Keta Urban Circuit, covering some of the most populated schools, were set for Friday, May 29, for Vodza, Adzido, Keta E.P., Keta R.C., Convent Girls, Keta Zion, and Anlo State School expected to hold the occasion in the largest event on the schedule.

The Officer in charge of girl-child education, said the circuit-based approach was designed to decentralise the celebration and bring it directly to communities which would ensure maximum participation from pupils in outlying areas who might struggle to attend a centralised event.

She called on headteachers, circuit supervisors, parents, and community leaders to ensure full turnout to the programme which is expected to impact positively, improve, educate, and uplift the standard of boys’ ability in the various schools and communities.

“We want to raise boys who grow into kind, respectful, empathetic men, who can hear ‘no’, who can handle disappointment, treat women with dignity. Because lately, the story in the news have been a reminder, these lessons matter.”

She said that the engagement would provide a vital opportunity for participants to invest in the mental, physical, emotional, and social development of the next generation of male leaders.

Madam Tudzi appealed to individuals, philanthropists, major advocacy groups and organisations to help champion different aspects of boy empowerment to enable educating, improving and giving hope to the young boys for a better future.

The theme for this year’s celebration was,” Boys for Integrity” and “Flourish and Thrive: Investing in Boys for Stronger Families and Communities,” centered around boy child development.
