Grade 2 pupil mauled by crocodile in Lake Victoria –

A family is searching for the remains of a Grade 2 pupil who was killed by a crocodile in Lake Victoria.

Arnold Onyango was killed at Kobiero beach in Karachuonyo constituency after being attack by the reptile on Sunday evening.

The crocodile grabbed the minor and pulled him inside the water before eating him.

According to area Beach Management Unit chairman Erick Osawa, the crocodile first dived with the boy before resurfacing with the body in its mouth some meters away.

The pupil of Lower Kamuga Primary was bathing alongside two other children.

“His colleagues, who were with him, said the crocodile carried the boy towards the deeper waters,” Osawa said.

The children ran away and raised an alarm before residents rushed to the scene.

However, efforts to rescue the boy proved futile since the crocodile dived again and disappeared.

“People who rushed to the scene could not find the crocodile or the boy’s body,” Osawa said.

Osawa called on government agencies to help them in retrieving the body.

“We also call on well-wishers to intervene and help,” Osawa said.

Kokoth Kataa location chief Michael Owino they are focusing their attention on the papyrus reeds where they believe the crocodile might have deposited the body.

“It is believed that crocodiles hide human body in the papyrus reeds. The search team is focusing on the reeds to speed up the retrieval,” Owino said.
