A moment from last year’s event

The 11th edition of the KGL Foundation Millennium Marathon is set to take place on Saturday, September 12, 2026, with organisers promising another exciting and rewarding experience for participants.

This year’s winner will receive a GH¢70,000 cash prize, a medal and a certificate of participation, while the second- and third-placed finishers will receive GH¢50,000 and GH¢30,000 respectively.

In an additional incentive aimed at encouraging Ghanaian participation, organisers have announced that the first Ghanaian to cross the finish line will receive GH¢10,000 as motivation and appreciation for their participation in the race.

The main marathon will cover 21 kilometres, while another which features a 5-kilometre race will be for social runners, corporates, churches and students.

Organisers have also disclosed that this year’s event will be monitored by World Athletics as they work towards meeting the necessary requirements for international recognition of the race.

Speaking on Guide Radio’s Guide Sports Xtra, KGL Foundation Millennium Marathon General Manager, Ernest Buamah, assured participants of comprehensive support and security arrangements for the event.

He disclosed that the Ghana Police Service, Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), Ghana Red Cross Society, KGL, Verna Mineral Water, and other partners will provide support throughout the race.

The race will begin at the Osu Shell Filling Station and finish at the Independence Square Grounds, where participants and spectators are expected to converge for the closing activities.

Mr. Buamah urged the public to register early and be part of what promises to be a memorable 12th edition of the Millennium Marathon.

The organisers are hopeful that the event will not only promote healthy living and mass participation in athletics but also help position Ghana’s marathon on the international athletics calendar.
