The police have made a major breakthrough in the March 2026 murder of Accra based Dr Jesse Amuah, and his wife, Elizabeth Esi Amuah with the arrest of a key suspect who was their errand boy.
The key suspect, 32-year-old man, Abraham Awondok, sneaked out of Ghana and went into hiding in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
He was recently arrested and has since been deported to Ghana.
According to the Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohunu, Awondok has admitted to killing Dr Jesse Amuah, and his wife, Mrs Elizabeth Esi Amuah.
The couple had earlier been reported missing in March 2026 and were found dead in April 2026
Providing the update at the press briefing on Monday, the IGP said investigations led police to suspect that the couple had been murdered.
Following searches at their residence, other locations the couple was believed to have visited, and information from family members, their mortal remains were recovered and subsequently conveyed to the Police Hospital Morgue for preservation and autopsy.
“Investigations later established that suspect Abraham Awundok, who worked as an errand boy for the couple, had murdered them,” the IGP said.
He explained that the suspect also took their mobile phones, money, and private vehicle, and subsequently left Ghana for the United Arab Emirates.
He said the suspect was declared wanted through an INTERPOL Red Notice.
“On August 30, 2026, the suspect was deported from Dubai to Ghana by a team of investigators from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit and INTERPOL.
During interrogation, the suspect admitted to the murder. The suspect remains in Police custody as investigations continue,” he said.

What happened?
The couple had not been seen or heard from since March 23, 2026. A complaint was lodged with the Police Missing Persons Unit on April 22 after their residence was found locked.
Their Nissan Sunny, with registration number GX 159-X, was also found missing.
The development prompted the police to arrest two people in connection with the disappearance and assign a joint investigative team from the Missing Persons Unit, the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit and the Crime Scene Management Team to the case.
Interpol Red Notice
According to Mr Yohuno, Awondok was declared wanted through an Interpol Red Notice after leaving the country.
On August, 30, 2026, he was deported from Dubai to Ghana by a team of investigators from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit and Interpol.
Mr Yohuno said the suspect admitted during interrogation after his return to Ghana that he had murdered the couple.
The vehicle has since been recovered, while Awondok remains in police custody as investigations continue.
Mr Yohuno said the arrest formed part of police operations to tackle criminal networks across the country.
He urged members of the public to provide information on suspects still at large to the nearest police station or through the police emergency line 191.
He said information provided would be treated with strict confidentiality.
