In Ghana, parents of basic school graduates have been warned about people on social media who promise to unofficially change BECE examination results or influence students’ placement in senior high schools. This was reported by MyJoyOnline.
Call to use official channels
Ahafo Regional Secretary of the National Council of Parent-Teacher Associations Kwame Nti Yeboah said that some people on social media are trying to exploit parents’ concerns. According to him, they offer to change Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results or help secure a place at a preferred institution.
Yeboah urged parents to contact the Ghana Education Service and the West African Examinations Council directly rather than intermediaries. He noted that these institutions have published official contact numbers for consultations concerning results and student placement.

School selection after results
The representative of the parent associations also supported the decision to hold senior high school selection after the BECE results are released. Previously, students selected institutions before learning their results, which, he said, could create difficulties for families and candidates.
Last Friday evening, the Ministry of Education released the 2026 senior high school placement for qualified BECE graduates. This prompted mixed reactions from parents and guardians. Under the current procedure, thousands of candidates did not receive places, while the Conference of Heads of Private Second Cycle Schools published a list of private institutions that may serve as alternatives for such families.
Yeboah stressed that parents should be especially vigilant on social media, where unidentified individuals may demand money or personal data by using the issue of student placement.
