Paul Afoko is aspiring National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Paul Afoko is aspiring National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)

Aspiring National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Afoko, has expressed confidence that the party will return to power and remain in government for more than eight years if it is properly reorganised.

According to him, the NPP must strengthen its structures at the constituency and polling station levels, which he described as the foundation of the party.

“We have to re-organize and strengthen the party and the foundation, which is the constituencies, the polling stations, because that is where power lies and then we will recapture power, and we will stay in power, and we will not only break the 8, we will break the 12,” he said.

Afoko also called for unity within the NPP, stressing that members should not be divided based on the candidates they supported.

He said factions within the party do not promote unity and could hurt the NPP’s chances of returning to power if the situation is not addressed.

“There cannot be one NPP for those who supported candidate A and another NPP for another candidate. There cannot be an NPP of the powerful and another NPP for the forgotten grassroots. There is only one NPP ethic, and everybody must have a place in it,” he noted.

He further promised not to use the chairmanship position to settle scores if elected, saying he would come into office without enemies.

“If you elect me as chairman of the party, I will come into office with no enemies. There is nobody that I want to punish,” he stated.
