Black Meteors during draining

Ghana’s Black Meteors have been handed an interesting route in the qualifying race for the TotalEnergies CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2027 following Tuesday’s draw held in Cairo.

The Ghana U-23 side received a bye into the second qualifying round and will face the winner of the first-round tie between Togo and Libya.

Should Desmond Ofei’s side successfully negotiate the second round, they will advance to the final qualifying round, where they will meet the winner of the second-round encounter involving São Tomé and Príncipe, Equatorial Guinea or Niger.

The three-round qualifying competition will determine the seven teams that will join hosts Egypt at the eight-team TotalEnergies CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations finals.

The Black Meteors will begin their qualifying campaign with the first leg of their second-round tie scheduled for November 9, 2026, before the return leg on November 17, 2026.

The final qualifying round takes place between March 22-30, 2027.

The Black Meteors have not featured at the men’s Olympic football tournament since the 2004 Athens Games, meaning a successful qualification for Egypt 2027 would bring the country closer to ending a 24-year wait for another Olympic appearance.
