In a major display of sports diplomacy and international collaboration, the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, led by Hon. Adeyinka Anthony Adeboye, in partnership with the Polish Embassy in Abuja, is set to host a high-profile Nigeria vs Poland International Friendly Match Watch Party on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at the VIP Lounge of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

The highly anticipated event is expected to attract top government officials, diplomats, sports administrators, football stakeholders, youth leaders, and invited guests from across Nigeria’s sports and diplomatic communities.
The initiative comes shortly after a strategic diplomatic engagement between the SSA and the Polish Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Michal Cygan, where both parties discussed bilateral cooperation and possible areas of collaboration in grassroots sports development, youth empowerment, sports exchange programmes, and international partnerships.
Organizers say the watch party represents more than just a football viewing experience, describing it as a platform aimed at strengthening cultural exchange, sports diplomacy, youth engagement, and international friendship between Nigeria and Poland.
Speaking ahead of the event, Hon. Adeboye emphasized the power of sports in building bridges across nations and creating positive opportunities for young people.
“Football is a universal language that connects people beyond borders. This collaboration with the Polish Embassy reflects our commitment to using sports as a tool for unity, youth development, and international cooperation.”
The SSA further noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration remains committed to grassroots sports initiatives capable of engaging Nigerian youths positively while creating pathways for talent development and international exposure.
“Sports remains one of the strongest platforms for empowering young people and promoting national unity. We are proud to continue building partnerships that support this vision.”
The watch party will officially commence with guest arrivals at 6:45 PM, while kickoff for the international friendly match between Nigeria and Poland is scheduled for 7:45 PM.
Beyond the football action, the evening is also expected to provide networking opportunities for stakeholders within the sports ecosystem while strengthening diplomatic and cultural relations between both nations.
Sports observers have already described the event as another strong example of the growing role of sports diplomacy in Nigeria’s international engagements, particularly through grassroots-focused initiatives championed by the Presidency.
With excitement already building ahead of the event, Abuja is preparing for an evening where football, diplomacy, entertainment, and youth engagement will come together under one roof in celebration of the beautiful game.
