Administrator of the Ghana Sports Fund, Dr David Kofi Wuaku, says neither he nor his deputy, Simon Appiah, has received a salary since the Fund was established five months ago.

Speaking on Citi FM’s current affairs show Eyewitness News, Dr Wuaku said the delay is due to administrative processes within the public service.

“We have worked for five months without salary,” he said, explaining that the delays are due to public sector procedures that must be completed before payments can begin.

Established under Act 1159, the Ghana Sports Fund is a permanent, multi source financing mechanism created to provide sustainable funding for sports development and reduce Ghana’s reliance on emergency fundraising before major international competitions.

Dr Wuaku also explained that the Fund is yet to recruit permanent staff and is currently relying on volunteers.

“We have not engaged any formal staff yet. We just have some volunteers who are helping us with the setup,” he said.

He added that the Fund’s 11 member governing board is also serving without pay as it continues to put its operational structures in place.

The Ghana Sports Fund operates under the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, with GCB Bank PLC serving as its official collecting bank to manage and account for its funds.
