Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his commitment to the “Rivers First” mantra, describing it as the guiding philosophy behind the policies and programmes of his administration over the past three years.
In a goodwill message to mark the third anniversary of his administration, Fubara said prioritising the interests and well-being of Rivers people has remained the focus of his government in the last 36 months.
This was contained in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Friday by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Onwuka Nzeshi.
The governor said his administration’s huge investment in road infrastructure was aimed at connecting rural communities with urban centres and creating economic opportunities for residents.
According to him, the vision of transforming Rivers State into an investment destination informed the execution of major projects such as the Port Harcourt Ring Road, Trans-Kalabari Highway, Elele/Umudioga/Egbeda/Ubimini/Ikiri/Omoku Road and the Ngo-Atlantic/Oyorokoto Road, among others.
Fubara also stated that his administration had strengthened the education and healthcare sectors while prioritising peace and security across the state.
He expressed appreciation to the people of Rivers State for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the state, assuring them that public funds would continue to be used for public good.
The governor attributed the achievements of his administration to the cooperation, resilience and enterprise of the people.
“What we have achieved in three years is proof that when government and citizens pull in the same direction, progress is possible.
“As we mark this anniversary, I renew my commitment to you: to lead with transparency, listen more than I speak and ensure that every project, every policy, and every naira spent reflects your interest,” he stated.
While acknowledging that more work still needs to be done, Fubara urged residents, including elders, youths, women, traders, teachers, farmers, artisans and professionals, to continue contributing to the development of the state.
The governor also congratulated Nigerians on the country’s 27 years of uninterrupted democratic rule, describing it as the longest stretch of civil governance since independence.
He said the milestone showed that Nigeria’s diverse ethnic groups could coexist peacefully despite differences.
Fubara assumed office as Rivers State governor in May 2023 amid political tensions within the state.
Since then, his administration has focused on infrastructure development, healthcare, education and economic growth, while navigating prolonged political disputes involving key stakeholders in the state.
