The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a serving Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Newton Isokpehi, after a viral video surfaced online showing the officer allegedly threatening violence and displaying conduct described as unbecoming of a member of the Nigeria Police Force.
Addressing journalists on the development, the Command disclosed that the officer was promptly identified and taken into custody immediately after the video came to the attention of the authorities.
According to the Police, internal disciplinary proceedings have already commenced against the officer in line with the ethical standards and disciplinary regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Command further revealed that ASP Isokpehi has also undergone a drug test as part of ongoing investigations aimed at establishing the full circumstances surrounding the incident and ensuring transparency in the process.
Speaking on the matter, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State,, strongly condemned the conduct displayed in the video, stressing that the Nigeria Police Force remains a disciplined institution that will not tolerate misconduct, abuse of office, incitement, or any form of unprofessional behaviour capable of eroding public trust.
The CP assured residents that the outcome of the disciplinary process would be made public and warned that any officer found culpable would face appropriate sanctions in accordance with extant laws and police regulations.
The Command also reminded officers and personnel to remain professional, emotionally balanced, and respectful while carrying out their lawful duties, particularly in an era where the actions of security operatives are constantly subjected to public scrutiny.
The Police Command appreciated members of the public, civil society organisations, and social media users for providing useful information capable of improving accountability and service delivery within the Force.
