NDLEA arrests baker of drug-laced cakes, intercepts cocaine shipments to UK, Australia

Opertives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 29-year-old businessman, Ogadi Peter, who specialises in producing drug-laced cakes and cookies for parties and social gatherings in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Following credible intelligence, he was traced to his residence in the Life Camp area of the FCT, where he was arrested with 800 grammes of skunk and 2.70kg of drug-laced cookies on Monday, May 11.

The anti-narcotics agency also intercepted consignments of cocaine and various opioids concealed in the walls of cartons used to package clothes and other items bound for the United Kingdom and Australia.

The seizures were made at a courier company in Lagos on Friday, May 15, 2026, during the examination of shipments destined for both countries. A total of 170 grammes of cocaine, sealed in cellophane parcels and hidden inside the walls of a carton containing clothes headed for Australia, was recovered.

A range of opioids, including 200 ampoules of pentazocine injection, 1,100 capsules of tramadol and 100 ampoules of promethazine injection, was also recovered from another carton destined for the United Kingdom.

In Delta State, NDLEA operatives on Sunday, May 10, raided Ejeonu village in Ukwuani Local Council, where they destroyed 27,500 kilogrammes of skunk cultivated on 11 hectares of farmland and recovered an additional 22.9kg of the substance. A 52-year-old suspect, Ifeanyichukwu Peter, was arrested in a follow-up operation at Obiaruku.

A similar raid in Orogun village, Ughelli North Local Government Area, on Tuesday, May 12, led to the destruction of 37,500 kilogrammes of skunk and the recovery of 55.4kg of the substance on 15 hectares of farmland. A 30-year-old suspect, Godwin Vincent Osadera, was also arrested.

The operations brought the total quantity of skunk destroyed by NDLEA operatives, supported by soldiers, to 65,000 kilogrammes.

In Kaduna State, 361kg of skunk was recovered and a 42-year-old suspect, Husaini Suleiman, was arrested during a raid at the Dan Magaji area of Zaria on Wednesday, May 13.

In a separate operation, NDLEA officers on patrol along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway intercepted a cache of military-grade ammunition on Tuesday, May 12. A 35-year-old suspect, Abdullahi Hassan, was arrested while conveying 1,989 rounds of RLA 7.62mm ammunition concealed inside fresh white cassava granules, locally known as garri. The suspect and the recovered ammunition have since been transferred to another security agency for further investigation.

In Ogun State, NDLEA operatives recovered 361kg of skunk from a suspect, Aliyu Sani, during a raid in the Ogere area on Wednesday, May 13.

Similarly, a 27-year-old suspect, Sufiyanu Mohammed Misa, was arrested with 105,850 pills of opioids, including tramadol, diazepam and exol-5, along the Zaki-Biam Road in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State on Thursday, May 14.

In Oyo State, two suspects, Adeleke Olamide Aliyah, 20, and Aloba Abdulazeez, 25, were arrested on Thursday, May 14, at Challenge II in Saki town in connection with the seizure of 99 litres of skuchies.

In Edo State, NDLEA officers on Friday, May 15, raided Ago Forest in Orhionmwon Local Government Area, where they destroyed 1,388.4175 kilogrammes of skunk cultivated on two farms.

In Kano State, a 25-litre jerry can of palm oil used to conceal 1.2kg of tramaking 225mg pills was recovered at Kofar Ruwa Motor Park on Monday, May 11, following credible intelligence. On the same day, a 35-year-old suspect, Aminu Isa, was arrested in the Sabuwar Sharada area with 30.5kg of skunk.

Also, the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) social advocacy activities by NDLEA Commands continued across the country in the past week. 
 
The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (Rtd) commended the officers and men of DOGI, Delta, Kaduna, Oyo, Taraba, Kano, FCT and Edo Commands of the Agency for the arrests and seizures of the past week.

He also praised their counterparts in all the commands across the country for pursuing a fair balance between their drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction efforts.
