Accra, May 3, GNA – Great James Foundation emerged winners of the third edition of the Functional Sports League Ghana (FSLG) Orphanage Championship after a closely contested event held at the Zulka Astro Turf in Dansoman.
The championship, headlined by Forte Commodities, brought together several orphanage homes in a series of functional sports activities that tested participants’ strength, power, endurance and overall physical fitness.
Great James Foundation clinched first place with 33 points, edging out Chose Home Orphanage, who finished second with 32 points. Open Heaven Orphanage placed third with 31 points, highlighting the narrow margins that defined the competition.
Participants engaged in bodyweight and mixed physical exercises designed to promote fitness, teamwork and discipline, while competing for prizes and products provided by sponsors.
Mr Charles Owusu Ansah, President of FSLG, expressed satisfaction with the progress of the competition, describing the third edition as a major step toward organizing a bigger fourth edition.
He said FSLG was working towards organising a national orphanage championship, which would offer a broader platform to identify and develop sporting talent among children in orphanage homes across the country.
“There are so many orphanage homes out there, and we want to bring them into the limelight because they have talents. If we identify them early, we can place them on the right pathways for future sports development,” Mr Ansah said.
He added that selected athletes from the championship would be groomed and prepared for higher‑level competitions, including potential international exposure, with the needed institutional and corporate backing.
Mr Ansah called for greater support from corporate Ghana, the National Sports Authority and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation to help sustain and expand the initiative.
Other sponsors of the event included Neurkies Hub, Electroland Ghana Limited, AppZone, Erata Motors, Simplicity Brands, and Amazing Grace Travel and Tours.
