Ghana international Ernest Nuamah made a sensational return to the pitch after climbing off the bench on Sunday in Olympique Lyonnais Ligue 1 clash against Stade Rennais.
The 22-year old suffered a serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in his left knee during a league game against Lille. Just seven minutes into game, he sustained injury and was forced off the pitch immediately.
The injury sidelined Nuamah for over a year, with his return to the squad happening on Sunday.
Ernest returned to the first team after 391 days, featuring against Rennes since the setback. He inspired Lyon to a deserving 4-2 victory over Stade Rennais.
Among the most emotional was his close friend, Brazilian wonderkid Endrick, who couldn’t hide his excitement seeing the Ghanaian winger back after such a difficult year.
His return to fitness, will be a morale bolster for the Ghana national team, the Black Stars as new coach Carlos Queiroz keep tabs on his squad. Nuamah will be available for selection into the final squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament in the summer.
