Speaking at the 10th anniversary international conference of Ghana Export-Import Bank in Accra on Wednesday, March 25, Dr. Asiama said the local currency ended the year at around 10.4, a level he described as “a surprise.”
“I knew the cedi could appreciate, but I did not expect it to appreciate to that extent,” he said, noting that inflation ended the year at about 5 to 5.4%.
The Governor explained that while achieving this performance required significant effort, the costs incurred were manageable. “It’s a one-time cost and manageable,” he said, highlighting that the monetary policies implemented were effective in stabilizing the currency and curbing inflation.
He added that the cedi, which had earlier stood at 16, gradually strengthened over the year, closing at 10.4 by December 2025, reflecting both market dynamics and the Bank’s interventions.
