The Chinese community in Ghana recently brought the magic of the Lantern Festival to the area in front of Parliament.

A video shared by myer.lansky4 on TikTok on Sunday, March 1, 2026, captured the vibrant celebrations, where Chinese nationals hosted a festive gala.

“This is the square of the Parliament House of Ghana, where Chinese nationals are hosting a Lantern Festival gala. Many members of the Chinese community in Ghana, along with locals and Europeans, have come out of curiosity. The crowd is constant and lively, it’s incredibly festive!” the video caption read.

The role of local festivals in promoting Ghana’s Tourism

On both sides of the road next to the square, several chefs from China prepared authentic Chinese dishes.

“Along both sides of the road next to the square, there are also many chefs from China preparing Chinese cuisine on the spot. Foods from different regions of China have gathered here in Ghana 🇬🇭, making it feel just like a grand food-tasting festival,” the caption added.

The Lantern Festival, also known as the Yuanxiao Festival, is celebrated on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month. On the night of the festival, streets are decorated with colorful lanterns, often with riddles written on them. People enjoy sweet rice balls called tangyuan, watch dragon and lion dances, and set off fireworks.

The festival marks the end of Chinese New Year celebrations and symbolises reunion, harmony, and new beginnings. The lanterns themselves represent letting go of the past year and welcoming the new year with good fortune.
