Water shortage hits three Kadjebi communities for days

By Daniel Agbesi Latsu

Kadjebi (O/R), Sept. 06, GNA – The communities of Martin Kordzi, Tadzewu Kpodzi and Asito, all suburbs of Kadjebi in the Oti Region, have been without running water since Monday, August 31, disrupting domestic activities.

The shortage has affected access to water for cooking, bathing, washing and other essential household activities, compelling residents to ration the little water available to them.

Residents have therefore appealed to the Kadjebi Water Board to urgently intervene to restore supply and prevent the situation from creating conditions that could pose public health risks.

Ms. Esther Nyame, a resident of Martin Kordzi, described the situation as “sorrowful and pathetic,” saying the shortage had forced her to reduce the frequency of bathing because of inadequate water.

She appealed to the Kadjebi Water Board to treat the matter as an emergency and restore water supply to the affected communities.

Mr. George Dorhame, a resident of Tadzewu Kpodzi, expressed similar concerns and appealed to the authorities to act swiftly to prevent the situation from worsening.

He said residents were struggling to meet their basic water needs and that a prolonged shortage could have serious consequences for households.

Burst pipeline

Mr. Mawuli Agbeve, an electrical operator with the Kadjebi Water Company, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the disruption was caused by a burst water pipeline around the residence of Mr Wisdom Aglonu at Martin Kordzi.

He said he received information about the burst pipeline on Saturday evening, September 5, 2026 and efforts were being made to address the fault.

Mr. Agbeve assured residents that the company would deploy the necessary resources to repair the damaged pipeline and restore water supply to the affected communities.

He expressed the hope that water would be restored by Sunday, September 6, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Residents have meanwhile been urged to conserve the water available to them while efforts are made to resolve the problem.
