Nigeria and Poland have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with a renewed focus on digital innovation, cybersecurity, trade, and security cooperation.

Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, received Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Economy, Mr Krzysztof Gawkowski, and his delegation, during a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, where both sides reviewed existing relations and explored new areas of partnership.

The discussions centred on expanding cooperation in strategic sectors such as digital transformation, cybersecurity, trade and investment, agriculture, maritime security, education, defence cooperation, infrastructure development, culture, and tourism.

Welcoming the Polish delegation, Odumegwu-Ojukwu described the relationship between Nigeria and Poland as longstanding and cordial, noting that diplomatic relations between both countries were established on May 30, 1962.

She also congratulated Poland on the peaceful conduct of its recent presidential election and reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to democratic governance and institutional stability.

The Minister highlighted ongoing economic reforms under the administration of President Bola Tinubu aimed at improving the ease of doing business, enhancing fiscal transparency, and attracting foreign investment.

She urged Polish businesses and investors to take advantage of emerging opportunities in Nigeria’s growing economy.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu further expressed appreciation to the Polish government for its continued support of Nigerian students, especially those affected by the conflict in Ukraine, describing educational cooperation as a key pillar of bilateral relations.

On security matters, the foreign minister stressed Nigeria’s determination to combat terrorism, piracy, and transnational organised crime.

She called for stronger collaboration with Poland in intelligence sharing, cybersecurity, maritime security, and counterterrorism efforts, while also advocating the speedy conclusion of a proposed Memorandum of Understanding on Maritime Cooperation between the two countries.

Speaking during the meeting, Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Gawkowski, described Nigeria as a strategic partner and one of Africa’s leading economic and technological hubs.

He reaffirmed Poland’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Nigeria in areas including artificial intelligence, digital transformation, innovation, cybersecurity, and private sector development.

The Polish official also commended Nigeria’s role in promoting regional stability and tackling terrorism, expressing Poland’s readiness to work closely with Nigeria in addressing emerging global threats such as cyberattacks and disinformation.

Mr Gawkowski disclosed that several Polish companies were interested in expanding their operations in Nigeria, particularly in the digital economy and infrastructure sectors, and encouraged Nigerian companies to explore business opportunities in Poland.
