Tanzania is mourning a devastating loss after 32 people were killed in two separate road accidents in the Morogoro Region, prompting President Samia Suluhu Hassan to issue a message of condolence to the bereaved families.

The accidents occurred on Thursday, October 8, 2026, leaving families grieving and raising fresh concerns about road safety on the country’s busy highways.

In a statement shared on Friday, October 9, President Suluhu expressed deep sorrow over the deaths, describing the loss of 32 citizens as heartbreaking.

She extended her condolences to Morogoro Regional Commissioner Queen Sendiga, Inspector General of Police Camillus Wambura, the affected families and the people of Tanzania.

One of the most devastating incidents occurred in Mkambarani Village, where a passenger bus collided with a timber truck, triggering a fire that destroyed the bus, the crash claimed 28 lives, according to reports by People Daily.

The second accident involved three vehicles, including a police vehicle and left four people dead.

The two incidents happened on the same night, turning an ordinary evening into a period of grief for families across the region.

President Suluhu wished those injured a speedy recovery and called for comfort and strength for families struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss of their loved ones.

Beyond her message of sympathy, the Tanzanian president renewed her call for drivers to obey traffic regulations and ensure their vehicles are safe for use on public roads.

She stressed that every driver carries a serious responsibility for protecting passengers and other road users whenever they get behind the wheel.

Her warning comes as road accidents continue to claim lives across East Africa, with dangerous driving and unsafe overtaking remaining major concerns on busy highways.

The Morogoro tragedy has once again highlighted the devastating consequences of road crashes and the urgent need for greater caution among motorists.

As families mourn the 32 victims, attention is turning to road safety enforcement and the measures authorities can take to prevent similar disasters.
