Ruth Odinga Speaks After Homa Bay Chaos Following Arrest Of Chief Goon, Warns Of A Growing Dragon
Former Kisumu Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga has weighed in on the chaos that followed the arrest of Kassim Abdi Sebo in Homa Bay. Sebo was arrested at the Homa Bay Bus Stage on Thursday night over an alleged assault case.
Officers from Homa Bay Police Station and the DCI acted on a warrant issued by the Homa Bay Law Courts on 14 August 2026. Seven men who were with him were also arrested for allegedly obstructing the officers.
The arrest soon triggered unrest in the town. Youths linked to Sebo reportedly broke into businesses and looted goods. Others burnt tyres on the tarmac and disrupted normal trade in the central business district.
Odinga said the violence came right after the arrest and just weeks after chaos at a Linda Mwananchi rally in the county in August. She wrote: “This is what happens when you feed a dragon.” She added that there are now consequences when one touches chief goons.
She also sent a warning to financiers and organisers of goonism. She told them to stop feeding the dragon because it is growing and soon even the government will fail to slay it.
Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has also spoken on the matter. She joined those raising concern over organised violence and the political enablers behind it in the region.
Sebo has previously been linked in media reports to the Hammer Boys group and to political mobilisation in Homa Bay. Claims have circulated that Governor Gladys Wanga and Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma backed or tolerated his activities. Neither has publicly confirmed the claims and no charges have been announced on those grounds.
The incident has renewed national debate on who funds goons.
