RIP: Sad News As Senior Govt Officer And His Driver Are Murdered While Heading To Work

A senior police officer and his driver perished when their vehicle detonated a roadside explosive near Dadaab in Garissa County, stirring fresh anxiety over security in the region.

The pair died on the morning of Friday, October 9, at roughly 6.50am.Their Toyota Land Cruiser, assigned to Hagadera Police Station, drove over the device along the road linking Saretho and Dadaab.

A security alert indicated that the deceased were the officer commanding the Police Division in Hagadera, an assistant superintendent of police, and his driver.

Both are said to have died instantly when the bomb exploded.

The blast severely wrecked the vehicle, and security teams rushed to inspect the scene and establish exactly what transpired.

Preliminary security reports point to the Al Shabaab militant group. Nonetheless, no outfit had admitted responsibility at the time of reporting.

The attack occurred in an area that has previously faced threats from suspected militants.

Dadaab and Hagadera lie in northeastern Kenya, close to the Kenya-Somalia border, where security forces have been striving to prevent attacks crossing over from the other side. The region has witnessed comparable explosives targeting police, patrol vehicles and other travellers on isolated roads.

The deaths of the two officers are likely to stir renewed concern over the safety of police deployed in areas prone to militant attacks.

Following the explosion, security teams launched a follow-up operation and heightened surveillance along the route.

Officers were cautioned that more explosives, ambushes targeting those rushing to assist, and additional attacks were possible.

Authorities have regarded the incident as a grave security threat.

They have urged people to avoid non-essential travel on the Saretho to Dadaab and Garissa to Dadaab roads until the routes are cleared.

The public has been told to stay away from the blast site while security teams check for any lingering danger.

Organisations operating in Hagadera and Dadaab have been requested to verify that their employees and partners are safe.

Any necessary movement should adhere to official security directions and the standard route-clearing procedures.

Security has also been strengthened around Hagadera Police Station and the roads leading to the refugee complex as authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
