In Ghana, the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) this year provided 59,300 higher education students with loans totaling 210 million Ghanaian cedis. According to MyJoyOnline, these were enhanced student loans.
The fund said it covered demand
SLTF Chief Executive Officer Saajida Shiraz said on The Pulse program on September 9 that the fund was able to meet all demand for student loans this year. According to her, this became possible after the government paid greater attention to financial support for students.
Shiraz noted that this support is part of the government’s efforts to ensure that financial constraints do not hinder access to higher education. In addition to traditional and enhanced student loans, the fund also expanded support under the Student Loan Plus initiative.

Assistance for law students and students with disabilities
Under the Student Loan Plus program, 1,997 students received support, including 626 students at the Ghana School of Law. As the head of the fund reported, support for those pursuing professional legal education was expanded under a directive from President John Mahama.
The SLTF directly transferred about 20 million Ghanaian cedis to the Ghana School of Law to pay tuition fees for 626 students. The fund spent another 10 million Ghanaian cedis to support students with disabilities, covering tuition and accommodation costs. The government is also working on a policy for additional support, including payments and assistive learning devices.
