Police have arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with the disappearance of Dr Jesse Amuah and his wife, Mrs Elizabeth Esi Amuah, in Accra, following months of investigations into the case.

The suspect, Abraham Awendok, who worked as an errand boy for the couple, was arrested after investigations linked him to their disappearance and alleged murder.

According to the Ghana Police Service, the suspect fled Ghana for the United Arab Emirates after allegedly killing the couple and taking their mobile phones, money, and private vehicle.

He was subsequently declared wanted through an Interpol Red Notice.

Awendok was deported from Dubai to Ghana on August 30, 2026, by a team of investigators from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit and Interpol.

The Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, said the suspect admitted to the killings during interrogation.

The couple’s vehicle has also been recovered, while the suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.

Dr Amuah and his wife were reported missing after relatives and associates became concerned when they could no longer reach them.

A formal complaint was lodged with the police on April 22, 2026, stating that the couple had not been seen or heard from since March 23.

Police said investigators found troubling signs at their residence, including a locked house and the absence of their Nissan Sunny vehicle.

The disappearance prompted a multi-agency investigation involving the Missing Persons Unit, the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit and the Crime Scene Management Team.

Investigators visited the couple’s residence and pursued several leads as they sought to establish what had happened to them.

The investigation eventually led police to Awendok, who had worked for the couple and had allegedly left Ghana following the incident.

Police later recovered the couple’s remains, which were conveyed to the Police Hospital for preservation and autopsy.

The latest development brings a major breakthrough in a case that had attracted significant public attention and left the couple’s relatives seeking answers about their whereabouts.

The police have not disclosed further details about the circumstances of the alleged killings, as investigations remain ongoing.

Awendok is being held in police custody while investigators work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the deaths and determine whether other persons were involved.
