Nandom (UW/R), Sept. 06, GNA – Mr Alois Mohl, a stalwart of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and a native of the Nandom Constituency, is seeking to be the NPP parliamentary candidate in the 2028 general election.
He said he would leverage his leadership experience to lead the Party in the constituency into a massive victory in the December 2028 polls.
Mr Mohl, who has declared his intention to contest the Nandom NPP parliamentary primaries, has built a professional career spanning public administration, social development, training and development, and monitoring and evaluation.
Presenting his profile at an event in Nandom to declare his intention to contest the primaries, Mr Magnus Innocent Der, former Headmaster of the Nandom Senior High School, said Mr Mohl possesses the requisite competence to lead the party to win the Nandom Constituency parliamentary seat in 2028.
Public service
He explained that Mr Mohl has worked extensively in Ghana’s public service, rising to the position of Director before moving into frontline politics.
He has also served in various positions in the public service, particularly in child protection, where he contributed significantly to the development of institutions providing care for children in Ghana.
Mr Mohl has served as National Coordinator of Ghana’s Care Reforms Initiative; Head of the International Social Services Desk; Head of the Not-for-Profit Organisations Desk; and Head of Early Childhood Development Centres.
He has also served as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Social Investment Fund (SIF) in the former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led government and a government-appointed Assembly Member between 2006 and 2009.
During his tenure at the SIF, Mr Mohl facilitated development projects in Nandom, including a six-unit classroom block, a staff common room, a headmaster’s office and store and a computer laboratory at Dondometeng, equipped with computers and a projector.
The parliamentary candidate aspirant also initiated a modern electrical workshop for the Nandom Technical Institute, which is currently under construction.
Mr Mohl has worked as a consultant for not-for-profit organisations in Europe, America, Asia, Africa and Ghana, particularly in child protection and organisational management and growth.
Education
On education, Mr Mohl holds an MBA in Human Resource Management from the Central University, Accra; an MSc in Defence and International Politics from the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College; and an LL.B from Mountcrest University College.
He also holds a BA in Political Science with Sociology from the University of Ghana, Legon, and a Certificate in Social Work from the School of Social Work, Accra.
Mr Mohl has also gained professional exposure beyond Ghana, having undertaken specialised training in countries including Israel, the United Kingdom, the United States, Italy, Ethiopia and South Africa.
The training was in areas including violence against women and children, not-for-profit organisation management, international adoption practices, child labour reporting, child protection and care reforms.
Political career
In his political career, Mr Mohl is also a member of the Party’s 2028 national campaign team (Local Government and Decentralisation Policy Committee), the National Settler Communities Campaign Team and the Northern Sector Monitoring and Evaluation Team.
He has also served the NPP in various positions from the constituency to national levels, including on the National Council, National Executive Committee, National Campaign Team, elections monitoring teams and the National ICT Committee.
He was also Vice Chairman of the then Lawra-Nandom Constituency and served as Member Secretary of the 2007 Presidential Primaries Committee and the National Disciplinary Committee.
At the regional level, Mr Mohl chaired the Upper West Regional Disciplinary Committee and served on the regional campaign team, as well as coordinated the campaign of Mr Ambrose Dery between 2005 and 2008.
Mr Mohl has also been praised as a grassroots organiser whose charisma, mobilisation and campaign strategies have significantly impacted the party’s fortunes in snatching the seat from the NDC in the previous elections.
He has also contributed to the construction of the Upper West Regional NPP office, including the provision of air conditioners, and supported the Regional Youth Office with furniture and chairs.
Social interventions
Mr Mohl has shown kindness, love and support by donating Christmas packages comprising 5kg rice, cooking oil and financial support to party executives and vulnerable persons in the constituency since 2019 to date.
He has also supported some constituents with school fees, medical bills, farming inputs, tractor services, petty trading, vocational training, and livelihood support, among others.
The Parliamentary candidate aspirant has also facilitated employment for some youth in the constituency to help reduce their economic vulnerabilities.
Mr Mohl has promised to scale up these interventions and humanitarian support if he is elected as a parliamentary candidate.
Mr Der said the combination of Mr Mohl’s compassion for humanity, public service experience, political exposure and national and international networks has equipped him to effectively represent the Nandom constituency in Parliament.
Bid for unity
Mr Mohl’s bid comes at a time when the NPP in Nandom is seeking to rebuild following its defeat in the 2024 parliamentary elections.
He has, therefore, made party unity and grassroots mobilisation central to his political message, arguing that the Party needs experienced leadership that can unite the members and position the party to reclaim the constituency.
“I am here today because I believe we need a leader who listens, acts, and delivers real results,” he said in his intent declaration speech.
Mr Mohl has also identified education, health, agriculture and social welfare as key areas he would prioritise if given the opportunity to represent the Nandom Constituency in Parliament in 2029.
Members’ testimony
A section of the party members has described him as “a politician with extensive experience in negotiation and lobbying.”
They argued that his exposure to national institutions and international organisations could help him attract opportunities and development projects to the constituency.
