Ambassador Victor Smith receives special honour in Washington for driving Ghana’s economic diplomacy

Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, H.E. Victor Emmanuel Smith, has received a special honour from the Life Enhancement Services (L.E.S) Group in recognition of his service and efforts to forge stronger partnerships between Ghana, the Ghanaian diaspora and the United States.

Ambassador Smith was honoured at the Welcome Home Appreciation Celebration organised by the L.E.S Group on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at the National Museum of African Art in Washington, D.C.

The distinguished recognition marked an appreciation of the Ambassador’s work during his first year in office, particularly his efforts to move Ghana’s diplomatic engagement beyond conventional approaches and towards partnerships capable of delivering tangible economic opportunities.

In receiving the honour, Ambassador Smith humbly dedicated it to his wife and the dedicated staff of the Ghana Embassy, crediting them for their support and commitment throughout his first year of service.

He emphasised that the Embassy is pursuing a “not business-as-usual diplomacy”, with a deliberate focus on mobilising the Ghanaian diaspora, attracting American investors and linking opportunities in the US market to Ghana’s development agenda.

The Ambassador noted that Ghana has enormous opportunities capable of attracting both diaspora investment and international capital, particularly when such investments can translate into employment and opportunities for the country’s growing youth population.

“We’re trying to find ways to get investors and our diaspora to partner and go back home to take advantage of the opportunities that exist, create jobs and create opportunities for our young people,” he stated.

Ambassador Smith further expressed gratitude to the L.E.S Group for the honour, describing it as an encouragement to continue working with his team to build innovative and sustainable partnerships that can support Ghana’s economic transformation.

The recognition highlights the growing importance of economic and diaspora diplomacy in Ghana’s foreign policy, as the country seeks to leverage its international relationships to attract investment, create jobs and accelerate national development.
