Felix Kwaku Hini

The Association of District Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Coordinators in the Greater Accra Region have made a passionate appeal to the government to consider providing all pre-tertiary institutions across the country with the required ICT tools and resources to promote teaching and learning.

Mr. Felix Kwaku Hini, the Chairman of the Association, who announced this, said such a provision would create equal opportunity for all learners across the country, irrespective of location, to have equal access to quality teaching and learning for the good of the nation’s educational development.

The Association, however, commended the government for the efforts made so far in the provision of ICT tools in schools across the country, but called for more, especially in rural areas that lacked computers and internet services, to enhance effective teaching and learning of ICT.

Mr. Hini made the call last Friday at the closing session of a two-day capacity-building workshop for Greater Accra District ICT Coordinators, all Senior High School Coordinators and a team from the regional education directorate.

The workshop, organised by Uniwiz Foundation, an ICT advocacy and promotional non-governmental organisation (NGO), in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES), had the theme “Advancing Ghana’s Education Technology Workforce.”

The two-day training was designed to equip the participants with advanced tools, practical skills, and strategies to elevate educational technology across Ghana.

The Chief Executive Officer of Uniwiz Foundation, Mr. Larry Wisdom Quarme-Doe, said the mission of the NGO has always been centred on empowering minds through accessible, quality digital education, adding that to build a sustainable tech-driven future for students, there was the need to invest heavily in the educators who lead them.

He explained that, “Today, technology is no longer an optional add-on to education—it is the very backbone of modern learning.”

In an address read for her, the Swiss Ambassador to Ghana, Simeone Giger, stated that the Embassy of Switzerland was excited to support the training initiative because they believe it has come at a very timely moment as ICT was changing rapidly, and education practitioners cannot afford to be left behind.

The Greater Accra Regional Director of Education, Mrs. Hajia Katumi Natongmah Attah, in an address read for her, praised the various partners and sponsors for their support, and urged the participants to make good use of the knowledge acquired during the training towards the training of the nation’s manpower.
