South Africa marks exactly 365 days without loadshedding

Power utility Eskom is marking a full year without loadshedding on Saturday for the first time in eight years.

The utility says this is a turning point, with the grid shifting from recovery to a stable and high-performing power system.

Eskom says sustained reliability over the past three years has saved nearly 27 billion rand in diesel costs, while meeting 100 percent of the country’s electricity demand.

In a statement, Eskom Board Chairperson Mteto Nyathi praised employees for their commitment to rebuilding the utility after the years of state capture.

Eskom spokesperson daphne Mokwena said this represents a move towards restoring national confidence.

“While the legacy of loadshedding once constrained economic activity and strained South African households, 365 consecutive days of uninterrupted power supply represents more than operational progress, it is a restoration of national confidence.”
