Govt declares May 27 public holiday

The Ministry of the Interior has declared Wednesday, May 27, 2026, a statutory public holiday in observance of Eid al-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice.

In a statement issued on Friday, May 15, the Ministry urged the general public to observe the day as a public holiday across the country.

The declaration was signed by the Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak.

“The general public is hereby informed that Wednesday, 27th May 2026, marks Eid-Ul-Adha, which is a Statutory Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country,” the statement said.

Eid al-Adha is one of the most important festivals in the Islamic calendar and is celebrated by Muslims worldwide through prayers, charity and animal sacrifice in commemoration of Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion and obedience to God.
