Musical duo DopeNation has announced a relief initiative to support victims of the June 29 floods that affected parts of Accra, leaving several families displaced and property destroyed.

The move follows Monday’s heavy rains, which caused severe flooding in parts of Accra and other communities, claiming lives, destroying property and disrupting economic activities.

The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, has disclosed that the floods displaced more than 38,000 people, claimed 12 lives and left seven others missing across several parts of the country.

In a statement issued via social media on Wednesday, July 1, the duo said the initiative forms part of their effort to support victims using proceeds from their Europe tour.

“We intend to give 1000 cedis each to a number of victims, families affected in some parts of Accra from our Europe tour proceeds,” it read in part.

They explained that while the financial support may not fully address the scale of losses suffered, it is intended to provide some relief and comfort to affected families.

The musicians also reflected on the emotional toll of the disaster, urging unity and resilience among Ghanaians in the face of recurring flooding challenges.

“This won’t solve the problem neither will it bring back the lives and property but will at least ease some tension amongst us,” noted the duo.

DopeNation expressed solidarity with victims and called for collective support as communities continue to recover from the disaster.
