While football fans filled stadiums across the United States to watch the ongoing international tournament, the Administrator of the Ghana Sports Fund, Dr David Kofi Wuaku, has been using the occasion to promote one of Ghana’s key sports development initiatives and mobilise support for its long term growth.

Recognising that major sporting events attract business leaders, philanthropists, members of the Ghanaian diaspora and sports investors from around the world, Dr Wuaku has engaged a range of individuals and organisations to build partnerships aimed at strengthening sports development in Ghana.

During meetings held on the sidelines of the tournament, he appealed to corporate organisations, charitable foundations and sports enthusiasts to contribute to the Ghana Sports Fund, describing it as a sustainable financing mechanism for nurturing talent from the grassroots to the elite level.

According to him, inadequate and inconsistent funding remains one of the greatest obstacles to sports development in Ghana and across Africa, limiting opportunities for many talented young athletes to realise their full potential.

“The future of African sports depends on the investments we make today. Every contribution to the Ghana Sports Fund has the potential to change a life, build a facility, support an athlete or inspire the next generation of champions,” he said.

Dr Wuaku stated that the Fund is committed to transparency, accountability and prudent management, with resources directed towards athlete development, sports infrastructure, capacity building and high performance programmes.

He said the vision behind the establishment of the Ghana Sports Fund by President John Dramani Mahama extends beyond financing competitions, noting that it is intended to create a lasting framework that positions sports as a catalyst for national development, youth empowerment and economic growth.

Dr Wuaku added that global sporting events provide an important platform not only for competition but also for building strategic partnerships capable of transforming sports development across Ghana and the African continent.
