Fred Amugi
Veteran Ghanaian actor, Fred Amugi, has called on the current leadership of the National Film Authority (NFA) to fulfil the promises they made while criticising the previous administration.
Speaking during an interview on MX24 TV, the respected actor said industry stakeholders are closely watching the performance of NFA executives, James Gardiner and Kafui Danku, who had earlier expressed dissatisfaction with the way the authority was managed in the past.
According to Fred Amugi, their earlier criticisms came with expectations of meaningful reforms once they assumed office.
“The same people who complained about the previous administration are now in charge, so the industry expects to see improvements,” he stated.
The veteran actor also welcomed recent discussions surrounding the revival of old cinema halls across the country. The National Film Authority has announced plans to renovate and restore several abandoned cinemas in Accra in a bid to revive movie-going culture and strengthen local film distribution.
Amugi revealed that he had personally discussed the issue of cinema revival with James Gardiner before his appointment and believes the initiative could help reshape the industry if properly implemented.
“I have spoken with James about these things before. Now that he has the opportunity and authority to act, I hope it leads to positive change for the film industry,” he added.
The actor further stressed the importance of practical action over public criticism, urging the NFA leadership to focus on creating opportunities for filmmakers, actors, and producers while rebuilding confidence in Ghana’s movie sector.
