Kenya Police Thrash AFC Leopards 3-0 to Hand Gor Mahia Advantage in Title Race

AFC Leopards’ push for the title suffered a major setback after they failed to break down Kenya Police, leaving the door open for Gor Mahia to strengthen their lead.

Kenya Police FC cruised to a dominant 3-0 victory over AFC Leopards, dealing a major blow to Ingwe’s title hopes as they remain second on the Kenya Premier League table with 55 points, two behind leaders Gor Mahia on 57.

Prior their match against Kenya Police FC, AFC Leopards were fresh from securing a 2-0 victory over Murang’a SEAL at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.

On their part, Kenya Police had settled for a 0-0 draw against Mathare United on April 14, 2026, a result that left them seeking a clinical edge before facing the in-form Ingwe.

Kenya Police took an early lead in the fifth minute courtesy of Yves Junior Koutiama after a defensive mix-up by AFC Leopards allowed the visitors to capitalise.

In the sixth minute, AFC Leopards took a short corner, the first of the match, but the Kenya Police FC defense remained resolute and cleared the danger.

The match continued with AFC Leopards desperately searching for an equaliser. In the 27th minute, James Ssetuba pulled off a wonderful save to deny Kenya Police on the attack, preventing the visitors from doubling their lead.

Kenya Police successfully doubled their advantage through Erick Zakayo in the 31st minute through a swift counter-attack that caught AFC Leopards off guard.

In the 34th minute, AFC Leopards made an early tactical change as Rami Lasso Coulibaly came on to replace Kayci Odhiambo.

Charles Ouma extended the lead further by converting a third goal for Kenya Police in the 45th minute, effectively putting the visitors firmly in control of the match.

Coming back for the second half, AFC Leopards coach Fred Ambani made more changes with the hope of turning the result around.

AFC Leopards intensified their pressure in search of a breakthrough, committing more numbers forward to test the resilience of the visitors’ backline.

In the 62nd minute, Ernest Malonga received a yellow card for a push, marking the second booking of the match for Kenya Police after Abud Omar’s booking in the first half.

Despite the relentless waves of attack from AFC Leopards, Kenya Police FC maintained a disciplined and compact defensive shape to protect their significant advantage.

In the 71st minute, Kenya Police made a triple substitution as Brian Chonjo, Clinton Kinanga, and Awesu Ali replaced Alvin Mang’eni, Yves Koutiama, and Erick Zakayo.

Kenya Police FC also remained a constant threat on the break, looking to exploit the gaps left behind as AFC Leopards continued pushing for an opening goal. The match eventually ended 3-0 in favour of Kenya Police, a major setback for AFC Leopards in their title race push.
