The Defence Forces Sergeant Major (DFSM), Warrant Officer Class 1 (WO1) Bwana Haji Omar, has called on Warrant Officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) to uphold discipline, strengthen leadership and safeguard professional standards across the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).

Delivering a lecture at Mariakani Garrison, the DFSM emphasized the critical role of senior enlisted leaders as the link between commanders and soldiers, noting that their influence is key to effective command, operational success and unit cohesion.

He highlighted the importance of discipline, welfare and mentorship, cautioning that challenges such as financial indiscipline, poor conduct and weakened leadership standards can undermine military effectiveness if left unaddressed. He further urged senior NCOs to maintain professionalism, support commanders and lead by example at all times.

“Officers command, but you make command work. Without you, orders remain theory; with you, they become action,” said the DFSM.

He concluded by reminding the soldiers that their legacy will be defined by their character, leadership and the impact they leave on those they mentor and lead.
