Apex Health Insurance Ghana and 100 Black Men of Ghana have partnered to offer dedicated healthcare coverage for Diasporans relocating to the country, with a portion of premiums channelled directly into youth mentorship programmes.

The initiative, branded the Diaspora Health and Sustainability Bridge Programme, was announced days after a dual citizenship ceremony in Accra welcomed a new cohort of Diasporans as Ghanaian nationals. Organisers said the timing was deliberate, positioning the programme as a practical resource for returnees navigating healthcare options as they settle in.

Nii Nortey K. Oquaye, Oblantaa Mantse of Osu Ashante and Chairman of 100 Black Men of Ghana, described the scheme as a calculated move rather than a welfare gesture. “This is not charity, this is strategy. When we give Diasporans the security of health coverage and the gift of authentic guidance, they come home,” he said.

Under the arrangement, Apex Health Insurance, a private insurer licensed by the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), will roll out a dedicated Diaspora Health Insurance Plan covering outpatient and inpatient care, pharmaceuticals, diagnostic services and maternity care. Dental and optical cover will be available as optional additions, with services delivered through more than 600 healthcare facilities nationwide.

A built-in sustainability mechanism will direct a share of premiums paid by enrolled Diasporans toward mentorship workshops, entrepreneurship bootcamps, innovation fellowships and career development programmes in Accra, Kumasi and Cape Coast.

Beyond healthcare, the programme will also connect returnees with vetted professionals in legal services, real estate, financial planning and business development.

100 Black Men of Ghana is an official partner of the Office of Diaspora Affairs under the Office of the President of Ghana.
