APC Claims Nigerian Opposition is Unprepared for 2027 Polls

A member of the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress, Tolu Bankole, on Monday declared that opposition parties were not prepared for the 2027 general elections, insisting that the ruling party had already outperformed its rivals through effective governance and strategic political moves.

Bankole, who serves as the APC National Leader for Persons with Disabilities, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja, where he praised the administration of President Bola Tinubu and argued that the ruling party was gaining momentum ahead of the next electoral cycle.

The APC chieftain said the opposition was currently battling internal crises and lacked the unity and policy alternatives needed to challenge the ruling party in the next polls.

He said, “The facts are undeniable and the evidence is overwhelming: the opposition is not just struggling, it is in complete disarray and existential crisis. They are woefully unprepared, hopelessly divided, and intellectually bankrupt as we approach the 2027 general elections,” he said.

According to him, the APC under the leadership of President Tinubu has outperformed its rivals politically and in governance.

Bankole further credited the administration with stabilising the economy, attracting investment, improving infrastructure and addressing security challenges across the country.

“The APC, under the visionary, decisive, and transformative leadership of President Bola Tinubu, has not merely outmanoeuvred the opposition: we have comprehensively overwhelmed and defeated them on every front.

“President Tinubu’s extraordinary political sagacity, unmatched strategic brilliance, and results-driven governance have paralysed the opposition. Every desperate plot, orchestrated distraction, and fabricated crisis designed to derail this administration has collapsed spectacularly. Why? Because the Renewed Hope is real, tangible, and unstoppable,” he noted.

The former lawmaker also dismissed criticism from opposition parties, insisting that the administration’s performance speaks for itself.

He said, “The opposition’s only response has been noise, lies, division, and despair. Things have fallen apart in their camp; the centre cannot hold. Their leaders have exposed themselves as bad losers and shameless opportunists — more interested in settling personal scores, chasing shadows, and fighting among themselves than in presenting a single credible policy alternative to the Nigerian people..

“This is not arrogance; it is arithmetic. This is not propaganda; this is performance. The numbers, roads, new rail lines, growing foreign reserves, declining food import bill, increasing school enrolment and healthcare access don’t lie. President Tinubu is delivering — and the Nigerian people are feeling it.”

Expressing confidence ahead of the next election, the APC chieftain said the party was already building momentum toward another victory.

“The APC is not just coasting to victory in 2027, we are surging toward it with momentum that no force can stop. There is no going back. There is no retreat. There is only forward: faster, stronger, together,” he said.

Bankole’s statement comes barely 24 hours after The PUNCH reported rising attacks on opposition leaders, a development that has heightened political tensions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Opposition parties including the African Democratic Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, New Nigeria People’s Party and Labour Party have strongly condemned the incidents, alleging that the attacks form part of a deliberate attempt by the ruling APC to intimidate opposition figures and weaken rival political parties before the next national polls.

The APC, however, dismissed the allegations, describing them as baseless and insisting that internal crises within opposition parties were responsible for most of the violent episodes being reported.

The developments, which come months into early political realignments ahead of the next election cycle, have sparked concerns that Nigeria’s political climate could become increasingly volatile long before the formal campaign season begins.

Opposition leaders, however, insisted that the alleged intimidation would not deter them from mobilising their supporters or preparing for the 2027 elections.
