Heorhii Tykhyi (L) rejects Kwesi Pratt’s (R) terror claims on Ghana killings
The Spokesperson for Ukraine’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, Heorhii Tykhyi, has rejected claims made by veteran Ghanaian journalist Kwesi Pratt that Ukraine provided the “terrorists” responsible for the killing of eight Ghanaian traders in Burkina Faso.
In a post on X on February 25, 2026, referencing GhanaWeb’s publication that reported Pratt’s statement, Tykhyi described the allegations as false and intended to divert attention from the visit of Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, to Ukraine.
“We officially refute these allegations. Ukraine did not supply any ‘terrorists.’ Such fake stories are intended to distract attention from today’s historic and landmark visit of Ghana’s Foreign Minister to Ukraine. But they won’t succeed,” he wrote.

Earlier reports by GhanaWeb noted that Kwesi Pratt Jnr, Managing Editor of The Insight newspaper, had claimed that Ukraine was behind the terrorists who attacked Ghanaian tomato traders in Burkina Faso.
In a video sighted by GhanaWeb on February 25, 2026, Pratt indicated that his claims were not rumours, asserting that they were based on what he described as admissions from Ukrainian intelligence regarding involvement in terrorist activities in the Sahel region.
Meanwhile, Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, held talks with Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in Kyiv on February 25, 2026.
Their discussions centered on Ghana’s humanitarian appeal for the release of two Ghanaian nationals currently held as prisoners of war in Ukraine.
In a Facebook post, Ablakwa stated that the meeting also explored potential collaboration between Ghana and Ukraine to combat trafficking networks that exploit vulnerable African youth, drawing them into the ongoing conflict and putting their lives in danger.
He further noted that President Zelenskyy extended a formal invitation to Ghanaian President John Mahama, signaling Ukraine’s intent to strengthen diplomatic ties with Accra.
